Starting September 13 (Sat), the 37-day journey into the world of “The Craft-like” unfolds across the Iwase area (Toyama) and Higashiyama area (Kanazawa), running through October 19 (Sun). Eighteen groups of craftspeople, artisans, and artists from Japan and abroad will present diverse approaches that explore the space between craft and art. Their works, born from an earnest engagement with materials and techniques, offer expansive and boundary-breaking expressions. We hope you will experience their potential firsthand. This year’s theme quotes the words of Soetsu Yanagi, who saw “craft-ness” in all aspects of life, both tangible and intangible. What does “The Craft-like” mean to you? We invite you to explore the exhibition and discover your own answer.
