■Yamatsugi Seishijyo

Founded in 1872, Chiyo Washi is a handmade paper workshop established in 1872. At the time of its founding, it was making plain washi, such as Hosho, but since 1950, it has been mainly manufacturing art sachets, such as chiyogami and wrapping paper, using techniques such as Hikkake and Suki-awase too. Currently, they produce modern products such as tea cans, card cases, badges and other items using a unique technique called “Ukiwashi”, which is a type of washi with an uneven surface, and continue to explore the possibilities of washi.
