Based in a New York studio, Matsuyama is a contemporary artist renowned for his large-scale paintings and sculptures. His distinctive multivalent patchwork compositions, created from interlocking fragments with additional layers, have garnered international acclaim. These fragments, meticulously arranged to form images of figures, clothing, flowers, trees, rooms, or table-like shapes, unify into a cohesive scene. At first glance, Matsuyama's paintings suggest a grand narrative, but closer inspection reveals intricate patterns and imagery within each fragment, rich in detail and often independent of the larger image. His work is characterized by the dynamic tension between the overall composition and its individual elements. In Go for Kogei, Matsuyama presents his stainless-steel sculpture installations.
